Drones donated by Canada expected in Ukraine in May or June
Drones promised by Canada to Ukraine will arrive in that country as early as May, says Natasha Kim, Associate Deputy Minister at the Department of National Defence.
In response to questions from the Senate defence committee on April 8, Kim pointed to the impending deliveries of equipment.
“We are looking to have the drones that were announced earlier this year delivered this spring,” Kim said. “Night vision, which was announced, we are looking to have this spring as well. Multi-role boats, which were also announced, should be there by this summer.”
When asked for specific details about the timing of the drone deliveries Kim responded: “We are looking at an estimate of about May or June.”
Ukraine to receive 800+ drones from Canada
Bill Blair, Minister of National Defence, announced Feb. 19, 2024, that Canada would donate more than 800 SkyRanger R70 multi-mission Unmanned Aerial Systems to Ukraine. These drones are valued at more than $95 million.
The drones will be “sourced” from Teledyne FLIR in Waterloo, Ontario, according to the Canadian government.
